Ghosts

Another ghost.
Getting crowded around here.
Not that I mind. I enjoy the company. Been surrounded by ghosts my whole life: grandparents; parents; aunts; uncles: brothers; a son.
Also a smattering of dogs and cats. Dogs mostly. Most recently there was Baxter.
Baxter belonged to our son Sam. When Baxter was orphaned we adopted the gentle beast. That was 12 years ago.
Now Sam has a companion. It’s a comforting thought. And it sees us through the rough times.
The mind is a wonderful contraption. The keeper of faith, hopes, dreams and nonsense.
Steppping outside the box is good for the soul. Naysayers be damned.
For some say nay to ghosts. This is the end of the road, fella. Nothing beyond the grave.
Such a dreary thought.
A fork in the road, perhaps. But an end? Nah. When I go I hope to join them. Swooping around the universe. Not a worry among us. An array of starry dust soaring our way into the hearts and minds of loved ones.
Here’s to the ghosts in our lives.
May they never leave us.

'Here's to the ghosts in our lives' - absolutely, especially the nice ones, and that photo is very special. Dogs always know just what you need, even if their breath sometimes isn't all that : )

The ghosts of loved ones are with us always. I think the loss of a beloved pet is particularly tough, though. I still think about my Skye woofer and he left us over 3 years ago. An indelible bond that defies space and time. We remember them and, in that way, they live on.
