and when we should have felt like strangers

 

we met,

drum-called and thirsting

betwixt the curling of flames

and a woodland heavy with tears

 

i found the placid shade

of your eyes,

vivid with an early hint

of december skies;

of coffee ground

in january

 

fireside,

the warmth set your gaze

pool deep,

and when we should have felt like strangers

there was only harmony,

lifetimes grown

uncoiling like a fern

 

now,

as plants fold to the earth

as snow flexes its reach

as nights stand dark

and tall and proud

as stars murmur 

cloud-lost,

you sparkle

 

the brightest light

of beech hill

This is so beautiful. I enjoyed the contrast of internal emotions with elements of the outside and nature. It's like staring into a painting where the colours are restrained, just perfect.

Lovely. Whoever is the brightest light of Beech Hill should feel very special. I liked how you went effortlessly from December skies to coffee - outside to inside, cold to warmth, the big and universal to the small and everyday and all of it part of the same.

Wow! The title hints at reconciliation - just enough said. The sensual merging of human affection with the Earth at the seasonal gathering around the fire. The beauty of your descriptive detail. 'a woodland heavy with tears' - Nature can cry and heal - we can too.
