I used to write letters
with a Parker pen
on sheets of paper
called Basildon Bond,
but that was then.
A writing machine
built by Remington
replaced calligraphy;
mechanised writing
became the sine qua non.
Nowadays to do that
might seem absurd;
methods have changed
and with a laptop
we can use Word.
For urgent news
once we sent a telegram
now we despatch e-mails,
the drawback being
they may be spam.
Relevance of information
is always uppermost
but if there is too much
lengthy explanation
the message can be lost.

I too prefer the parker pen
I too prefer the parker pen Luigi. Your poem was nicely put and I'll bet a lot of children today won't even know what a parker pen is.
I have to say I still write letters, especially at Christmas, and slip any news I have in with the card.
Interesting read.

Soon pen & paper
Soon pen & paper will be a lost art Luigi, the only handwriting will be crude like a little child imitating the letters on the screen.
Hope I'm wrong ... Tom

So true - I too remember the fountain pen but mine was a Sheaffer given by my father. For Christmas this year, my youngest grandaughter received a Caligraphy set to encourage her hand-writing - make her fall in love with the skill of it. I also see the irony of using 'Word' - my favourite - I am a touch typist (old school) and taught my older grandaughter to 'type' using all her fingers, not just one or her thumbs. Ha-Ha. Thanks for this poem - I certainly enjoyed it, Luigi.
