Lend Me Your Ear

We hear you,
politicians tell us
when they suspect
we may make a fuss.
They say they listen
to the vox populi
and promise the earth
to you and I.
We will have jam,
but it'll be tomorrow
because to pay for it
the'll have to borrow
or raise more taxes
to balance the books
so, while we wait,
we are on tenterhooks.
We have to remember
they've no money to burn
and we must expect
the occasional 'U' turn.
They try their best
to replenish the coffers
and consequently
the taxpayer suffers.
I voted for change;
my labour was in vain.
Perhaps next time
I shall abstain.

Don't abstain
Don't abstain every vote counts! I like a good rhyme, and this was a good one.

They must be pretty nifty
They must be pretty nifty with those U turns by now! The words hell and handcart spring immediately to mind...
Nice one, Luigi.

Yes, good rhyme Luigi. I
Yes, good rhyme Luigi. I suppose at least they're listening? Clutching at straws for something positive - and you got a good rhyme from it too!

Well constructed, Luigi. We
Well constructed, Luigi. We know what we want to hear, but we need to hear honesty. I suppose it is easy to be afraid of rejection if not saying what we want to hear. Rhiannon

Very topical, Luigi. I should check the news to see how today's vote has gone on the Welfare Bill. I dread to think. So many u-turns as you say.
Adroitly done, sir.
