A whirling storm
brought battering harm,
and much alarm
for long,
until —

it was suddenly still;
a quaking calm –
glittering drops
of rain left hanging,
tiled rooftops
askew, bits dangling.

Then —
subdued residents
tentatively emerge
to view and forage
to make an inventory
and rescue some pottery,
bin lid, and washing line; –
glad if no worse damage,
and soothed by the sunshine –
comforting, warming balm
of the post-storm calm.

Thanks. Yes, I don't think there was much damage around here. But this afternoon, we went up to a lovely '3-dimensonal' little spot amongh low hills and earthworks, and the wind was again quite terrific when you were exposed. The poem is meant to be generic of the loveliness and peace after a storm. Rhiannon

Thanks. This was written originally awhile ago, but though all storms are different, there is that wonder when all is still again, and thankfulness. Similarly when a storm of trouble or health has passed. Still windy in Herefordshire too. Rhiannon

You summed up my experience in your poem Rhiannon, we've lost another two fence panels today, but at least they're not causing any more damage, just laying on the grass.

Thank you, Jenny. We appreciate the calm and sunshine after the storm, and the sunlight on the raindrops adorning everthing can be so lovely. But storms can be very destructive, and every now and then we experience one to a greater or lesser degree. Rhiannon

Thank you, Di. It wasn't very bad here yesterday, but very windy when exposed on the higher levels.
