Beside the sea

Trefin, north Pembrokeshire Coastal path May 2025
… not seaside of the beach and sand
but where the ocean meets the land
with cliff and rocks and flocks
of seabirds rest and nest
on little ledges, nooks.
May carpets bright pink drift of thrift
and starry blue of squill
and many other flowers the path-sides fill.
Isolated caves and coves –
peaceful havens for the seals
to come to breed
and safely leave their pups
while out to sea return to feed.
Far views and peace
just sounds of lapping waves on rocks below
echo up so that we know
the ocean heaves, its voice can grow
when breeze becomes a gale.
To here we have come …
[IP: beside the seaside. A famous Welsh poem is about the old mill at Trefin, and the second line is:
‘yn Nhrefin ym min y môr’, which means ‘in Trefin at the edge of the sea’ Note how Trefin is mutated to Nhrefin after 'yn' (in) Trefin is pronounced Tre-veen]

Hi Rhiannon, there's nothing
Hi Rhiannon, there's nothing like a trip to the Ocean where ever it may be. That last stanza was stunning and reminded me of my own visits to the coast. Lovely poem and thank you so much for sharing.

In my opinion
In my opinion one of the best poems I've read on Abc. Inspired.
Tell her to find me an acre of land, between the salt water and the sea strands.
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
Keep well! Tom
