The Power of the Word

Some words are better left unspoken;
Some words once said can never be taken back.
Some words cut keener than the sharpest blade.
Some words fester like a puss filled sore.
Some words have the power to make us;
Some the power to break us.
Some words are regretted;
Some are not.

Some words can start a war;
Some words can end it.
Some words can illuminate the soul;
…I love you…
Some words can cast us into darkness;
…I’m leaving…
And some words can give us the strength to face each new day:
"…God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference…"

New Darkenwolf I think this sums everything up,well thought up. I 'God' grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.. 'Silence is golden.' to understand the meanings of words is a complicated thing? interpretations can be misguided. julie xx

its amazing to me that we can mean one thing but that our words can be misinterpreted so easily. Glad you liked it and thanks for the comments :)

The quote at the end needs quotation marks, to indicate that it's borrowed from someone else... J x

Hi Darkenwolf, I love this poem, because it's so true of myself. I always speak before my brain jumps into action. It's so easy to say something that gets misinterpreted and be taken the wrong way. So many times I wanted the ground to swallow me up. But once those words are said, it's to late to retract. Very inspiring. Jenny.

true words indeed, I like the lines, "Some words can illuminate the soul; …I love you… Some words can cast us into darkness; …I’m leaving…" I think the examples give it a bit more depth.
