Birthday Blues

I was made by these times:
difficult, drowning in doubts,
conflicts around every corner ...
The world turns,
I turn,
turn,
turn:
look for the exit, it's coming up fast
every year might be the last.
There are wars - not mine.
Mine was cold, a world in stasis.
All wars are hot now,
they might be winnable
- but how?
I've made it this far -
who thought I would [not me]
I was the fool
who thought he could [and did]
I was made for these times,
they are "interesting"
- I thank the Chinese curse -
I dare not say, "they could be worse.
Music drowns the noise
from all the fools and bully boys,
fingers on the buttons of their dangerous toys:
ours appal us, but we voted them in,
the men with no shame, or concept of sin.
Some day the music won't be loud enough.

Happy Birthday Ewan
Interesting times indeed, some so awful that it robs us of speech to encompass the enourmity of that which overwhelms in our seeming futility.
Timely and taut.
Hope you found some personal joy on your day, music need not be loud to bring light and succour of spirit. Onward.
best to you

anything blue is anaethema,
anything blue is anaethema, but so is the orange one. We can even get nostalgiaic for a cold war.

Hot and cold and Chinese
I often use my Nan's old saying, 'worse things have happened at sea' but it didn't go down too well when I was working on ships and we were actually at sea. Consequently it's been a long time since I last worked on a ship.
It's good to know that it's not just me that's thinking that now the Cold War's over we can crack on with the hot wars. 'How would you like your war sir?' I hear the politicians ask.
But there is going on in the world to trouble us, I wish you a long and happy birthday.
