Chemo 9

 

_ Effie, how could you do this to me? 

_ (softly) s’not me. Tis you.

_ Don’t try to blame me. I emptied you at 12. I checked you at 4, and you weren’t full

_ Glue’s loose

_ And why should that be? 

_Very full when people were here

_ I could hardly go to empty you when we were having a meal, me,  my daughter and granddaughter. She is off to University this week. I won’t see her again till Christmas.

_ too full, glue gets stretched

_ Why didn’t you give me a warming - itch or something

_maybe I tried but you slept too deep

_And maybe you didn’t even try

_ s’not me, Tis you.

_ because of you I have 2 king size sheets and a mattress cover to wash, as well as all the clothes I was wearing.  You knew I was worried about getting to my Covid vaccination today. I didn’t need this mess on top of everything else.

_not to blame

_ You are such a   a   a  SHIT.

_ I am YOU.

All clear, done, by now, I suppose. So sorry, hope you enjoyed the family time before it all happened! It's a learning game and a perseveing game I guess. And you have to have grit and a bit of a sense of humour! Rhiannon

Yes the trauma took place after the company had left.  I should be learning from my mistakes, but I seem to be a slow learner.

Nothing is ever as bad as it seems at the time.  I wrote those few lines when I was still very upset, trying to sleep on a bare mattress with just blankets. But now it is all a memory - and hopefully a learned lesson for me.

I really have had an easy experience of cancer compared to most, so I should not be so upset by a few setbacks now and then.

little jeannie, he's right, so you got a hitch in your giddyup, well, fix it and get back up . And I don't remember you using a "vulgar" word before.  Caught me off guard.

Not meant so much as an explative as a matter of fact. that was what I was lying in - a load of shit. 

I don't use vulgar words as a rule, but felt an exception was in order. I was worried that I might have to have labelled it for adults only, but I didn't.

I remember you writing before, about cradling it as if it were a child. All that washing! How frustrating after a lovely day. I am glad you felt able to write this starkly honest account, and hope very much you are clean and dry and comfortable, now, and have been able to have plenty of good uninterrupted sleep

You are right. I do usually feel very tender towards my little stoma.  But after the poonami, she looked small and rather sheepish, and didn't produce anything for quite awhile. And of course, I am in control of the food that produces the excrement, and know that somethings are likely to be dodgy.  So much more my fault than hers.

With all the trauma you've still managed to keep a sense of humour which is incredible Jean. 

Let's hope Effie gives you a break and behaves.

All is well for the last day so hopefully it will continue like that. Sometimes the diahhrea comes as a direct result of the chemo - and usually I am prepared for that.  but we are learning together, I guess.

I think Effie is going to be part of my life from now on. Some people get reversals, but I was told that wouldn't be possible in my case. So I guess I have to get better at knowing what is going on.

That last line is a real corker (if that isn't the wrong word to use in these circumstances!). Keep smiling through, Jean - I'm sure it's more than difficult at times but you are doing an absolutely wonderful job.
