Evidence charged in midst

gathered; rhythm pulsating,

tempo building – echoing

far and wide.

 

Waterfall cascades in the

dance, as lake fish and

raindrops create rings that

channel a fluid waltz.

 

Earth with strength of purpose

sensed the stirring beating

from within; floating clouds

with their weeping could not

dampen pleasure gleaned,

 

while woodland creatures

entranced, stayed awake

relinquishing sleep for

mesmerizing resonant power.

 

Then carried on wild breezes;

daytime journeyed on, till

darkness fell like a mantle,

those intoxicated weary

hearing drumming, moon

kisses them goodnight.

That's an evocative, poetic cacophony of the sounds of nature, Jenny. Lovely use of metaphor. Adriotly done, for sure :)

Hi Paul,

playing the drums within a group of people is something I would loved to have done when I was younger. I remember many years ago when me and my partner had a long weekend in Glastonbury. They had a group of people that met up to learn about the rhythm in drumming, and I remember wishing we had somewhere like that where I lived.

I thought It must be extra wonderful out in nature among the woodland trees and lakes, which is how this poem came about.

I love that word evocative. I think the sound of drums brings to mind some of the many music festivals I attended when young, though not in the woods, it was always brilliant to share with other like minded music lovers out in the open.

Hi Jane,

what a lovely way to describe this poem: 'like a massage.' I think the Indian tribes of America would call this a tribute to their drumming.

I always imagine nature dancing along to the beat and rhythm of its natural environment in its own way.

You have really caught that feeling of being filled by a beat, changed inside like I imagine a caterpillar might feel turning into a butterfly :0) This made me think of Japanese Taiko drumming

I was really impressed with your comment about being filled by a beat, changed inside like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly...what a brilliant expressive way to describe the sound.

Also I'd like to thank you for introducing me to the Japanese Taiko drumming, which I checked out on youtube. Some amazing rhythmic sounds that are amazing to hear, and that I had no idea about.

I love that word primal, it kind of sums up a feeling of being at one with nature.

A lovely lyrical poem that captures the beat of the drum, and we should remember that the drum was probably our first musical instrument - beating in the outside air. And congrats for the golden cherries Jenny

Hi Dougie,

I know I always harp back to the American Indians when thinking of the drums, but the people are such a gentle nation of humans that for some reason leave me emotional with happy tears. I only have to hear one of the elders talking and I begin to tear up, they are so wise.

The reason I write ithis in connection to your comment, is that it's very true what you say. the drums have a message and reminder of how we would connect with each other and the earth, with all of nature too.
