Plenty of fish

The gulls in my area
like a rich and varied diet;
on summer nights, they feed
on the sleep of the overheated.
In the smallest hours,
they peck at my window
and state their intentions
and state their intentions
till the tiles slide and clatter
off the roof of my dreams—
until the sky shutters open,
and my day starts with a squawk.
I've never lived so near the sea
yet dreamt so often of houses;
in every room, a visitor waits,
crapping on my furniture
and flapping his beak.

Sounds like my life. I have two that have adopted my garage roof along with their offspring. Noisy and messy!
Nicely done, qb.

Visitors...
sometimes noisy, messy and a sharp cure for perceived sadness of being alone :)
Enjoyed.

They are so sassy, owning the rooftops, stealing the peace, the skies, the food. You've managed to capture their grabby remorseless attitude and woven it into dreamy romantic notions of seaside living. I can almost hear that funny choking laugh they do as they strutt around on the roof.
