Mandolin She always felt left out as a child
So she grew up a bit wild!
her temper and anger inside
Then she remembered the beat
dancing! dancing!
twirling in her bare feet
treading and stamping
As she learnt when young
to walk on hot coals
By the scorching
Blazing! sun
Mandolin the player she was known
Would bring it out
sit on the slippery rocks
quite near the sea
as it lapped in the yellow foam
She wore a T shirt black with a face on
kind of copied her life upon
Her long black locks
hanging to her shoulders
With the cheeks of white streaks on her face
long blue feathered earrings dangled down
her forehead with a headband round
in the colour of a blue moon
Sea shells around her swan long neck
in the middle was a secret heart
that opened to explore
It was a compass
to help her get from Abc.
Her skirt long and flowing
with pictures of pommegranites and exotic fruits
The flowers of compannula and edelweiss
in clusters to follow the routes
It was getting darker and darker
No birds to hear
but high in the twilight sky
there was the blue moon
as the eclipse shading by
The blastering winds
whistling through the cracks
of the mountains
"Come on" "Come on"!
Volcanic efflux lava and phosphorus gasses
spewed out
As Mandolin climbed
Higher" and higher!
towards the sublime heavens
She found an igloo made of frozen ice
and crept inside
suddenly!
she heard the howling of coyotes
their beautiful coats
shone in blueish tones
she mustn't be scared
so took out her mandolin
as most animals responded to her
And sung a harmonious song
then she peeped out
there were the Coyotes
like her T shirt on
and the mountains far beyond
Mother and father stood proud
Growling
mouths open wide
But the fluffy baby pups
threw back their heads
their mouths and necks
upwards towards the sparkling sky
found the tune like a lullaby
as she played the mandolin
she fell asleep
the coyotes had paced down
until the dawn of daybreak
had crept in she knew they would protect her
Mandolin opened the heart once more
and took a good glance at the photo
her memory straining hard came now
how she was separated at birth
from a big family
it was of her grandma
who had brought her up
She could do all these things
To watch and dance on hot coals
the fires making shapes
and brackens and twigs crackling
with the once in a blue moon shining
And she remembered her nan then
Used to have a crystal ball
Always turn your money over
by a full moon she would say
Black cats are lucky
Never walk under a ladder
Mandolin didn't want to know all that
She just liked music dancing
and stroke the black cat purring.
