Grey-Day rambling

… around part of Wenlock Edge
Squelchy mud – don’t slither, slide,
slippery stile – its steps not wide
enough for muddy boots to stand securely …
damp air, grey sky,
tired trees stand bare and dully by …
spitting drizzle – growing
heavier, but nearly back at car – see through
the cloudy veil a gleam of sunshine glowing
– maybe tomorrow
those trees will show their beauty bones
against the blue,
and hills come clear in glorious view,
but,
it has been good to feel the air and roam
and though the hills are dim,
a pleasant break away from home
and cars and shops and crowds and
all the din.

You've had me longing to get
You've had me longing to get out and walk Rhiannon. It's been weeks since we went out on the ridgeway, now you've inspired me to get out there, with this great ramble of a poem.
Thanks for sharing.
Jenny.

Lovely. Just back with the dog, from slipping and sliding about. Except we have no car. Neither of us drive.

Almost felt like I'd been out
Almost felt like I'd been out there myself, Rhiannon. It captures all the essentials - especially the just being there.

Sounds dismal and dreary
Sounds dismal and dreary, you should visit South-Africa sometime! Tourists especially from Europe and America say they get great value for money and they all come again.
But I am also a lover of the common, the ordinary, the homely the everyday, often not seen. I always see a rare beauty in it and I like also walking in the rain.
See you Rhiannon! Tom

Beautifully written, so well
Beautifully written, so well captured to make us all feel as though we were with you. Love the squelching and the almost sunshine hinted at for tomorrow. :)

Enjoyed this. The idea of getting dirty among nature while somehow getting your mind cleaned all at the same time. I would love a glimpse of blue sky against the bare bones of trees.

I love your walking poems,
I love your walking poems, with their breathing rhythm. But I love this too, the pause of it:
spitting drizzle – growing
heavier, but nearly back at car – see through
the cloudy veil a gleam of sunshine glowing
appreciating there is a gift outdoors in all weathers
it has been good to feel the air and roam
and though the hills are dim,
a pleasant break away from home
As Jenny says, just what is needed to inspire us to get out into the fresh air! A brilliant choice for poem of the day
