june 25th, woods after a hot day

far from carrion concrete, afternoon.
flies score warm silence. Butterflies duet
in aerial line to plane silhouettes
over hushed, close packed audience of grass
piercing yellow mini maltese-crosses
of tormentil spangling springy green paths
beside dark citadels of thriving moss
where fallen giants shelter shorter lives
honeysuckle's climbing curlicues peak
in cascades of pale gold candelabras
beckoning through dusk's slow seep, but it's scent
not light they spread to draw moths' interest
while day's birds settle then sleep, strong wings still
as unread music on the page of air

When you enter a wood, it
When you enter a wood, it feels like another world, suddenly all the problems seem to go away. Your poem does that for me with all its fine descriptions.
Lovely poem Di.
Thank you for sharing.

It reads like a symphony of
It reads like a symphony of nature, each playing their part in the garden's orchestra. I loved the grass audience and the cascades of pale gold candelabras - it all creates a picture of beauty and harmony and I could almost smell the honeysuckle's sweet scent as I read this.
So beautifully written - thank you for sharing.,

Very rich in thought and
Very rich in thought and metaphor
tormentil's tiny maltese-cross petals in high pitched yellow spangle springy green paths
that's lovely, they do spangle don't they. The rampant cinquefoil in our garden reminds me of it, not having been out where we can walk on the tormentil turf yet this year.
