The Changing of Seasons

Skies painted silver

Rain drifting on breezes.

Cumulus roiling in the distance.

The sigh of mountains

Heaving in silence.

A skein of geese leave

For warmer climes.

Winter nears…..

The snows are coming.

Eagles cry, circling like ghosts

Far from hidden eyries.

Haunting mist blankets forests

Dew drops on boughs. 

We watch dusk falling

in crimson half-light.

Shadows on Aspen bark

So distant from steel and glass.

And as the world turns

The seasons change once more.

Ah thanks, Di. 7C is sweltering? Hmmmm...so what's the temperature on your Scottish Island? And how bad does weather get up there in winter? I'm apprehensive about what the answers will be... 

I do love autumn and it inspires so many when it comes to poetry. This is a good thing :)

Love, 'the sigh of mountains' and 'Shadows on Aspen bark so distant from steel and glass'. The approach of short, cold days captured so beautifully in your poem.

Lovely piece - very evocative. I'm experiencing the reversal at the moment as I live in Australia and we're heading into a hot summer.

Hi Paul,

this is such a superb poem. You evoke the wildness of the enviroment in the picture. I love the idea of Eagles cry circling like ghosts far from hidden eynes. Also: Haunting mist blankets forest, which is so appropriate for this time of the year.

As you describe these beautiful wild and natural places I like how you remind us of the contrasting steel and glass that blight so much of our world. A little jolt to my warm, sleepy, autumnal head.

 

And as the world turns

The seasons change once more.

 

And let's hope it doesn't stop.
