Enchanted insects

Remember Grandmother's midsummer
fables will prevail, tales told of fairy land
"Have faith my dear,"she would say,
for remnants reside in harbour of
imagination.
Sometimes from labours we need an
escape, kisses carried on Autumn breezes,
that not for a moment know nestling of
fledgling in spring, or midsummer's warm
reflection in lake, quietly immersed in charm.
when trees flecked with fireflies in magical lightshow,
flickering rhythm encountered as lightening flashes
a pathway through forest, whimsical as fairy dust
carried on the wind.

I love seeing fireflies and enjoyed your poem about the magic they make us feel, just by turning on their light.

What a lovely video! I have never seen fireflies in real life either. Amazing little creatures to produce light like that. Such complex systems could never have evolved gradually by chance, or the half-formed organs would have been a nuisance to living! Rhiannon

Pick of the Day
This is a joy to read, Jenny, and the video is amazing! And so, obviously, it's our Facebook and X Pick of the Day!
I tried to find a picture that would echo the wonderful video, but none of the fireflies in woodland ones showed up properly on the page. I hope this will do, but if you have a better one, please do change it on here.

I missed this one when you posted it Jenny, so I'm doubly glad it was given golden cherries - what a wonderful pick! I've only ever seen fireflies once, in Philadelphia and it was such a magical experience - your beautiful poem took me right back there
It's also lovely to see you writing again - well done, and I hope this means you feel a little better

An enchanting video, Jenny
An enchanting video, Jenny and your accommpanying poem too. The sort of grandmother who advises you to have faith rather than telling you what doesn't exist is the best sort of grandmother and a key player in the development of your imagination.

That's a highly visual, magical sequence of images. Just gorgeous, Jenny.

Fireflies and frogs
A couple of times in our garden, after a summer evening rainshower, I've seen small frogs that have swallowed fireflies. I only know this because I've seen the dull flashing from inside their throats.
This is a lovely poem Jenny. I really enjoyed reading it.

Firefly fellas
They're lovely little fellas Jenny, and a bit intriguing the first time you see one. It's like being in a cinema with a tiny usherette with a tiny torch.

Thank you, Jennifer, for
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing this thrilling video of fireflies; your evocation of nature's transitory delights and your homage to your grandmother's imagination.
I hope that in years to come my own grandchildren remember the fairy stories I tell them! I think I'll write another one right now ...
